The Last Continent

Morning session was pretty dead, a lot of dull games around and not much action / excitement. I resorted to looking at hands in PT, and thought this was an interesting hand from a maths perspective;

SB: $60
Hero (BB): $52.50

Pre-Flop: Ks Kd dealt to Hero (BB)2 folds, CO calls $0.50, BTN folds, SB calls $0.25, Hero raises to $2, CO folds, SB calls $1.50
Flop: ($4.50) 8h 2c Qh (2 Players)SB checks, Hero bets $3.50, SB calls $3.50
Turn: ($11.50) 7s (2 Players)SB checks, Hero bets $8.50, SB calls $8.50
River: ($28.50) 2h (2 Players)SB checks, Hero checks
Results: $28.50 Pot ($1.40 Rake)SB showed 7h Jh (a flush, Queen high)

At first I thought "Moron*, you don't have odds to call that turn", as I had bet an amount specifically to make calling with a flush draw a mistake. I 'stoved the hand afterwards. His equity on the turn with a flush draw is 20%, so he has poor odds to call. However, the fact he holds middle pair gives an extra 11% equity, giving him just the right odds to make a call correct. This is something I need to bear in mind when drawing to a flush myself. I'm pretty sure I don't move him off the hand by betting more, as he's playing a donk-tastic 69/8. This scenario is something I've probably learnt before, but the hand served as a good reminder for future situations.

*For check-calling OOP w/ J7s and then being stupid enough to accidently play the turn perfectly, villain actually is a moron, ldo.

Sad, sad news that the talented Danny Federici from the E Street Band died on April 17th, after a 3 year battle with melanoma. Obituary. The band will not be the same without him.
